Putting out a fire with water

5/23/2019 (Permalink)

With summer just around the corner we want to share some safe outdoor fire tips on how to properly put out a fire using water.

  • Be cautious when you are intoxicated and near a fire
  • Do not throw trash or debris into a lit fire
  • Do not use Accelerants to light your fire
  • Do not toss aerosols, bottles, plastics, or malleable metals into the fire.

Doing so can cause shrapnel to be project into the air and potentially cause injury.

  • Do not leave the fire pit unattended
  • Do not leave children or pets unattended near a fire pit
  • Do make sure you have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher readily available
  • Do keep your fire pit 10 feet away from combustible items, buildings, or other landscaping
  • Ensure that the fire pit is covered to some extent
  • Do not use a fire pit on a deck or under a covered patio
  • Ensure that your fire pit is at least 6 inches tall
  • Do keep a shovel near by to smother a fire if necessary
  • Dispose of ashes in a safe metal container used solely for ashes.
